Is Don't Worry Darling Causing All The Darlings To Worry?

Florence Pugh's stunning and gorgeous talents tied together with Harry Styles deceiving and capturing smile has caused a storm of questions to spread across the internet as we see Alice and Jack Chambers live the perfect life of victory.

Set in the 1950's, with the men going to work whilst the women play housewife, Jack Chambers, played by Harry Styles (28) and Alice Chambers played by Florence Pugh (26) live a stylish, flirty lifestyle in a modern desert atmosphere that any young couple could fantasise about experiencing.

In their 50's attire, sipping cocktails at midday after waving their husbands goodbye, the ladies start their ritual day of cleaning, cooking and watching the house until they indulge in a ballet lesson or take a trip to the shops in town. It's Utopia. It's a dream. It's Victory.

Unlike the couple being deeply in love, living a dream, Pugh's scattered images of blood, black and white dancing cabaret women and the undescribed song playing around in her head, life is all a deeming nightmare in the worst way. Her world seems to flash upside down instead of being straight forward like how its programmed to be. When Jack realises that Alice isn't as naïve as the others he puts what he has left of his power and devotion into convincing her that all is fine and she just needs a break.

With Alice's life not being what it seems, many have left the theatres with more questions than they gambled for. Cracks in the film and unanswered Easter eggs have sparked many emotions. So what's caused all the darlings to question their own minds? Olivia Wilde's intellectual directing ways are the perpetrator as she leaves so many hints and loose ends for her audience to discover.

Here's what I deciphered from the film to answer questions flying around the internet.

What Is The Red Plane That Alice sees crash into the mountains that leads her to the forbidden Victory HQ?

The red plane crashes into the mountains which Alice sees from the tram but when she asks the driver, he sees nothing. Either she is hallucinating as she is too wrapped up in Margaret's words and her lost Son's red toy plane or its a glitch in the system that always happens yet because she didn't get off the tram, she saw it happen.

Why are the eggs empty when cracked one day?

Remembering correctly, on the day that the eggs were empty , Alice was set to be making a tuna salad but after consulting her husband Jack, he reminded her that Frank didn't like tuna . However, we later figure out this was a lie from him as he didn't want Alice to make tuna due to him eating that on a daily basis in the real world. Therefore, the schedule of the day was messed up and Alice had to change the food she planned to cook. The empty eggs were a glitch in the system as it wasn't planned for her to use them that day. A hint to her fake, simulated life.

What actually are the "Earthquakes"?

We see a couple of scenes in the movie where earthquake like rumbling occurs and shakes the ground for a few seconds. Bunny, played by Director Olivia Wilde (38), comments in one scene by saying, "boys and their toys", which implies that the rumbling underground is caused by the work happening underground by the men. As we later learn, the men are not underground working, so what is causing the Earth to shake? It seems that the shaking is almost seen as a glitch in the system which happens when the men leave and enter the simulation through the Victory HQ that Alice later finds. It's so obvious but so far!

Questions left by Wilde have caused darlings to speculate if we will see a sequel to the thriller in the near future to get the answers that are driving people crazy. However, many have pointed out the secret tension between the cast since filming the movie and it indicates we won't be so lucky. Many have ruminated that disagreements happened behind closed doors on set and the tension has been made evident to the public. Damn...

One main piece of evidence we have is of Pugh not joining her fellow cast members at the DWD Film Press Conference at the 79th Venice Film Festival in September 2022. Wilde adressed Pugh's non apperance by expressing how greatful she was that "she (Florence Pugh) is able to make it tonight (to the premier) despite being in production" for the film Dune 2 that she will also star in.

However, paparazzi pictures flew across the internet at the same time, of Pugh arriving in Venice wearing a statement worthy purple outfit, intended to make a scene. The question we all hold on our tounges is that was Florence actually caught up in production or did she choose not to attend? Florence has the answers ladies and gentlemen!

Don't Worry Darling has left our heads spinning with questions that have no answers, with concerns of behind the scenes tensions and with worries of how we are going to get the creepy, obsessive and melodic tune from "With You All The Time" out of our heads! Thanks Alice.

We can all heartily agree, Wilde, Styles and Pugh have a lot to answer for.
